Relaxed wedding ceremony examples (that still feel really special)

As celebrants, we hear this a lot:

We just want something relaxed… not too formal… just us.”

And I completely get that.

Because “relaxed” doesn’t mean less meaningful, it just means it feels natural, easy, and like you’re not putting on a performance.

If you’re not quite sure what that looks like yet, here are a few simple ways a relaxed ceremony can come together.

A short and simple ceremony

This is probably the most common.

You arrive, take a moment, and we move through the ceremony in a way that feels calm and unhurried, while still keeping things simple.

It might include:

  • a short welcome

  • a few words about you both

  • your vows (or something simple if you prefer)

  • the legal parts

  • rings and signing

All done in around 10–15 minutes, and it still feels really special.

Something a little more personal (without being over the top)

Some couples want a bit more of their story woven in, but still want it to feel relaxed.

So we might include:

  • a short, natural version of how you met

  • a few light, warm moments (maybe a laugh or two)

  • personal vows that feel like your everyday language

Nothing overly long, just enough to make it feel like you.

A small, intimate ceremony

This might be with just a handful of people, or even just the two of you.

These ceremonies are often:

  • really calm

  • quietly emotional (in a good way)

  • focused completely on the moment

No pressure, no big audience, just something simple and meaningful.

A “let’s not overthink it” ceremony

This is for couples who don’t want a big build-up.

We keep things:

  • short

  • clear

  • easy

You still have everything you need, just without anything that feels unnecessary.

What actually makes a ceremony feel relaxed?

It’s not about stripping everything back.

It’s more about how it feels in the moment:

  • not feeling rushed

  • not feeling like you have to perform

  • having someone gently guide you through it

  • knowing everything is taken care of

That’s usually what makes the biggest difference.

Simply put…

A relaxed ceremony doesn’t mean less.

It just means it feels easy, natural, and like you.

If you’re not quite sure what yours might look like yet

That’s completely normal.

We can keep it really simple and shape it together, in a way that feels easy and right for you both.
