Do we really need a big wedding ceremony?

It’s something a lot of couples wonder.
Sometimes it comes out as:“We don’t want anything too big…”or“We just want something simple.”
And sometimes it’s not said out loud at all, but it’s there.
So let me say this clearly:
No, you don’t need a big wedding ceremony.
Where the idea of a “big wedding” comes from
There’s often a bit of pressure, whether it’s from tradition, expectations, or just what we’ve always seen.
A certain number of guests.
A certain format.
A certain way things are “done.”
And before you know it, it can start to feel like you’re planning something for everyone else.
What actually matters
At the centre of it, a wedding ceremony is just this:
Two people, choosing each other.
Everything else is optional.
The size of the guest list doesn’t make it more meaningful. The setting doesn’t make it more real. What makes it matter is how it feels, for the two of you.
Smaller can feel very different
There’s something really special about keeping things a bit more intimate.
Often it feels:
calmer
more relaxed
easier to be present in the moment
You’re not performing. You’re just there, in it.
And that’s where the magic tends to sit.
Big can be beautiful too
This isn’t about saying big weddings aren’t right.
They absolutely can be.
If you love the idea of having everyone there, celebrating together, that can feel incredible.
It just comes down to whether that’s what you want.
Giving yourself permission
If you’re leaning towards something smaller, simpler or more low-key…
You’re allowed to choose that.
You’re allowed to do it your way.
You’re allowed to create something that feels relaxed, meaningful and completely you.
Simply put...
You don’t need a big ceremony.
You just need one that feels right.
If you’re not quite sure what that looks like yet, we can keep it really simple and shape it together.
