In Australia, any two people can legally marry as long as they are both at least 18 years old and neither is already married. In cases where one person is under 18, special permission from the Court is required — and I can guide you through that process.

All couples must complete a Notice of Intended Marriage (NOIM) form at least one month before the wedding, but no more than 18 months in advance. In the lead-up to your wedding, you’ll each be asked to complete and sign a declaration confirming there are no legal reasons why your marriage cannot take place.

Yes. Two witnesses aged 18 or older must be present at your ceremony. They can be family, friends, or anyone you choose - except your celebrant. Both witnesses must be able to speak and understand English. If this isn’t possible, an accredited interpreter will be required. All authorised marriage celebrants are legally required under the Marriage Act 1961 to meet with each person getting married separately and in person before the ceremony can take place. As your authorised Commonwealth-registered civil celebrant, it’s my legal duty to make sure that both parties are entering into marriage freely, willingly, and with full understanding. Prior agreement isn’t enough, I must confirm that each person gives their clear, present-day consent to marry.

On your wedding day, you’ll receive a commemorative marriage certificate, signed by you both, your witnesses, and me as your celebrant.
